It was a Monday when I met up with fellow bloggers at The Old Spaghetti House (also known as TOSH) along Libis in Quezon City for a night of good food and good conversation. We were there with the restaurant’s Marketing Manager, Ace Azarraga, who took the time to give us information about most of the dishes and about the restaurant as well. All of the food that were served to us were prepared by Chef Agui.
I was able to get my day’s coffee fix with a cup of TOSH’s Brewed Coffee.
I also managed to take a snap of one other drink ordered by some of my companions during that meal. This one was the Matcha Green Tea.
The first dish served to us was this beautiful Grilled Veggie Pizza, which I really adored. This one had zucchini, arugula and alfalfa sprouts (among other veggies) so it was a real treat! I wouldn’t mind dropping by TOSH just for this.
The other variant was called Thai Bagoong Pizza. I was honestly a bit skeptical when I heard that this was the next dish. I’ve had and love Thai Bagoong (Shrimp Paste) mixed in rice, but have never tried having it on pizza. I was pleasantly surprised when I took a bite and found that it actually worked pretty well! The crunch of the pork rinds and the sweet-salty combination of the mangoes and shrimp paste was nice. This might take a bit of getting used to for some people, though.
We were also treated to a number of TOSH’s famous pasta dishes. One of which was this classic: a serving of Pesto with Grilled Chicken. Each of their pasta dishes were served together with a piece of bread.
In the photo above, you can see the Seafood Alfredo. I liked the fact that the pasta tasted very light, despite it being a cream-based dish.
We were also able to sample the Gambasetti. I liked how the pasta was nicely cooked and that the spicy kick was still there. I also noticed that there were quite a lot of shrimp mixed in, garnering this dish extra points.
The one that stood out the most for me was this one: Mylene’s Creamy Pinoy Pasta. It’s basically spaghetti in white sauce, with garlic longganisa (a type of Filipino chorizo / sausage) and tinapa (smoked fish) as some of the main ingredients. This dish was one of the winners of TOSH’s contest and it’s named after the person who won the competition.
I have to be honest and admit that prior to trying this, I probably would have just skipped this dish if I’m perusing the menu on my own. I’m very glad to have been given a chance to try it and discover that it’s one of the tastiest dishes ever. 🙂 Definitely a winner in my books!
If you thought that we were done eating since we already had all those pizza and pasta dishes, then you’re mistaken.
When this dish arrived on our table, the first word that came to my mind was croquettes. In TOSH, these are referred to as Risotto Balls. They’re stuffed with mozzarella and bacon bits. I liked having these with the marinara sauce.
Another one of my favorites for that night was this awesome serving of Carbonara Wraps. I’m used to seeing and eating Carbonara spaghetti, so changing things a bit and having it served in wraps this time around was exciting. I really enjoyed how flavorful and creamy the filling tasted. I’m glad I still had enough space in my tummy for these! 🙂
Our meal ended with the Dessert Trio, a platter of sinful sweets that would definitely be a winner for all the dessert lovers out there. The platter consisted of (from left to right) a slice of tiramisu, golden (fried) Oreos with vanilla ice cream, and a slice of mud pie with caramel syrup. I was able to sample each of them and the one I liked most was the tiramisu.
