I stayed in the Makati area for a couple of days last October for a (sort of) “staycation” while my brother and sister-in-law were away. I took it as a chance to go around the malls in the area and try some of the places I haven’t been to. Den was there to accompany me again and we decided to try something a little sweet. We stopped by BONO Artisinal Gelato.
We learned that the business started last December and they’re now almost on their first anniversary. They have branches located at SM Makati, The Podium and at the SM Aura Premier.
There were a number of interesting items on their menu that I had a hard time choosing which one to get. After much thought, I decided to go with a single scoop of Malted Cookie Dough (Php130.00). The mix of malted milk, chocolate chip cookie dough and walnuts was the one that tempted me the most during that time.
My thoughts? The gelato itself was pretty nice; smooth and with just the right amount of sweetness. The only downside to the scoop I got was the walnuts. I didn’t expect that they would taste a little off. I had Den try them and she agreed. Maybe they were already rancid or they may have not been toasted too well? I’m not so sure which one it is, but I hope that it was just a one-time thing.
By the way, that thin waffle piece on top is yummy! It’s already a treat on its own. 🙂
Den decided to go with a scoop of Coffee Honeycomb (Php130.00), which was what BONO described as “chocolate covered coffee crunch”. We both found this flavor to be delicious. Again, not too sweet and the chunks were a nice contrast to the texture of the gelato. This flavor is definitely something I’d recommend to other people.
The BONO representative who entertained us was nice enough to let us sample some of their products before we finalized our orders. One of the other flavors which stood out for me was the Choco Greco. For those who are looking for a low sugar option, this dark chocolate and Greek Yogurt combo is the one for you. I, personally, will be going for this on my next visit. 🙂
