I don’t know about you, but I enjoy having a piece of something sweet at the end of my meals to make it more satisfying. Without that, I feel meal time isn’t quite done yet. I’m sure a lot of people feel the same way I do. Chocolates and candies bought from the grocery stores are my usuals since they’re convenient to have, but occasionally getting pastries from independent bakers can be more satisfying.
A friend of mine, Katrina Chua, is one of those who run their own pastry businesses. Kats Happy Food started in 2011 with the focus on making freshly baked goods using only natural ingredients in all her products. Her skills were honed by training at local hotels and then at the Hotel Fitz Roy in France and Dominique Ansel Bakery in New York. Very impressive background, right? ?
Kat offers a good mix of desserts to her customers. Whether you’re into chocolates or into fruity ones, she has something for you. Check out some of her creations below.
Her Fruit Tart easily became one of my favorites. I’ve always chosen chocolate-based desserts over fruit-based ones, but I was really really impressed by this tart. The buttery crust reminiscent of shortbread was superb! Just a note: this is just a sample sized one. Her fruit tarts are normally at 9″. ? I know several people who would rather go for fruit-based desserts for celebrations and I bet this one would fit the bill nicely!
Red Velvet Cupcake with vanilla cream cheese frosting and the PB Mocha with its delicious mocha buttercream frosting.
No Bake Oreo Cheesecake
These last two items also made it to my favorites list! The Classic Brownies were extra fudgy and chocolatey, just the way I like my brownies to be. I found these delightful both chilled or at room temp.
The Orange Rum Pound Cake was a pleasant surprise. I normally don’t enjoy citrus in my pastries, but the subtle flavor of the orange lent itself well to this rum cake. I definitely wouldn’t mind having more of this. ?
